The Salzburg (Floor Standing) Vienna Regulator
The Salzburg is an original design by Oakside Classic Clocks.
The Salzburg Floor Standing Regulator is in the style of the Vienna regulators of the Serpentine Period.
The cabinet is fully glazed to display the superb Kieninger® KSU50 cable movement, the solid brass dial, the Temperature Compensating Seconds Pendulum (invented by John Harrison of Longitude fame 1693 – 1776) with its 200mm Polished Brass Bob and the three Brass Weights. The Solid Brass Dial is available with either Roman or Arabic raised brass Numerals. We also offer a solid brass dial with a Silver plated chapter ring that is decorated in tradition black Roman and Arabic numerals - completed with a decorated Silver plated centre disk. Two selection levers control the Chimes and the three melodies - Westminster, Whittington & St. Michael. These are played on a twelve-rod gong. Select the "Automatic Sequencing" mechanism and the melody changes after the hour has chimed The Auto night shut-off selector silences the chimes and the melody between 22-00 & 07-15. A small dial shows the seconds.
We are now offering the Salzburg with two other movement options; there is the Superb Kieninger HSU Jewelled movement - this is Kieningers highest specification 1/4 cable movement with triple chimes, Westminster, St. Michael & Whittington on 12-rod gong, 680 mm long, Plate size 158 x 230 x 2,8 mm, up to 24 bronze bushings on the cable drums, counterlock, minute wheel pinion, 2nd wheel, heartwheel, centershaft and strikestar pinions, 12 jewels/genuine rubies on the fly wheel, fly wheel drive, escapement and anchor pivots, pallet anchor with a Graham dead beat escapement, automatic beat adjustment, cable winding stops, cable movements with maintaining power, separate chime shut-off for hour and melody. The cabinet is made 35mm deeper than standard to accommodate the HSU. The other option is the Kieninger RS westminster movement.
The Graham dead-beat escapement (invented by George Graham FRS 1674 – 1751), gives exact seconds beating to the pendulum. The Polished brass drive weights are suspended on cables and have traditional key winding through the dial and as with all superior movements the time drive is fitted with a maintaining power mechanism, auto beat correction and an over winding prevention device.
The Salzburg is built Walnut, Mahogany, Cherry and in Oak with your choice of Natural, Light, Medium or Dark Finish on the Oak and Mahogany. The cabinet is hand-sanded to a fine finish and we then apply five coats of Hard Lacquer, this is allowed to harden before we polish the clock to a beautiful satin sheen.
Manufacturing quality shows in every Kieninger movement. All movement plates are made of a special brass alloy that is hard and has a high tensile strength. The holes for the journals are reamed and smoothed after lacquering and then receive an oil sink. Pinions are made of high-quality steel or stainless steel. Fast turning pinions are hardened. All journals are roller burnished in a special process. The HTU and HSU movements feature thirty-two bronze-bushings and twelve jewels in critical positions. The gears are made of very tough and hard brass alloy with a tensile strength of 62 kp/mm². A high level of corrosion protection for all components is assured. Brass components are pickled and receive a coat of clear lacquer. Steel components are made from stainless steel or receive a galvanic nickel coating. Each movement also has a laser engraved serial number.
