Die Kensington Großvater Standuhr
(Modell: 2024/33)
The Kensington is Frank´s latest creation and it is styled to represent a modern version of a Grandfather Clock.
The Kensington is 80 inches tall and Frank will build it in your choice of solid - Walnut, Cherry or Oak. The cabinet features a full length curved glass door and it has glass to both sides. All glazing is Pilkington safety glass.
The Kensington can be ordered with either the Kieninger® HSU gong movement or the Kieninger®HTU Jewelled Tubular Bell movement; these are the highest specification movements in the Kieninger range.
The HTU 8-day movement strikes the hours and chimes three melodies - Westminster, St. Michael and Whittington on nine full length polished tubular bells. The HSU is identical in specifications but strikes the hours and chimes the melodies on a 12-rod gong.
Both movements have a selectable automatic ‘night silent’ mechanism to silence the chimes between 22-00 & 07-15. The movements are fitted with 12 Ruby and 26 bronze bushes to provide very low friction and durability. Manufacturing quality shows in every Kieninger movement. All movement plates are made of a special brass alloy that is hard and has a high tensile strength. The pivots for the journals are reamed and smoothed after lacquering and then receive an oil sink. Pinions are made of high-quality steel or stainless steel. Fast turning pinions are hardened. All journals are roller burnished in a special process. The HTU and HSU movements feature thirty-two bronze-bushings and twelve jewels in critical positions. The gears are made of very tough and hard brass alloy with a tensile strength of 62 kp/mm². A high level of corrosion protection for all components is assured. Brass components are pickled and receive a coat of clear lacquer. Steel components are made from stainless steel or receive a galvanic nickel coating. Each movement also has a laser engraved serial number.
The gravitational pull on the three polished brass weights provides the power to drive the Chimes, the Pendulum and the Melodies. To ensure accurate time keeping the movement has a dead-beat escapement (invented around 1675 by Richard Towneley and some forty years later used by George Graham FRS 1674 – 1751 in his precision regulator clocks), as the pendulum swings the escapement impulses the Temperature Compensating Pendulum (invented by John Harrison of Longitude fame 1693 – 1776) and as with all superior clock movements, the time drive is fitted with a maintaining power mechanism to drive the pendulum while the weights are being re-wound. The polished brass drive weights are suspended on cables and have traditional crank key winding through the dial.
There are a number of dial options including a square clear acrylic face etched with modern numerals and fitted with your choice of either a brass or cabinet matching hardwood rim. alternately you can specify a round clear acrylic dial featuring etched modern numerals within a hardwood rim; The rims on these dials enclose low voltage LED´s to illuminate the numerals when switched on by the touch sensitive switch. If you prefer a traditional dial face we can fit a round white face again with a hardwood rim. If you specify this dial we fit discretely placed LED´s to illuminate the cabinet.
To achieve exceptional time-keeping accuracy the movement are governed by a very long temperature compensated carbon fibre shaft. Pendulum. Carbon fibre is a material that´s length is virtually unaffected by temperature changes hence perfect for aiding very accurate time-keeping. You may specify either a 220 mm diameter Bob constructed with a polished brass disk enclosed within two acrylic disks and with time-keeping adjustments facilitated by adjusting a wheel at the centre of the bob, or, a tradition brass bob with an adjustment wheel below. The pendulum glides serenely back and forth forty eight times each minute.
Using our newly developed electronic instrument and PC program we are able to monitor the swing of the pendulum and make adjustments to the pendulum bob to attain an extremely accurate beat, thus providing very precise time-keeping without further adjustment in service.
